Getting started

What is Sentence?

Sentence is a reading app that presents books one sentence at a time. Swipe through the text, revisit the previous sentence, or switch to Page view.

Does Sentence make book summaries?

No. Sentence displays the book’s original text one sentence at a time; it does not replace the book with a generated summary. Switch to Page view when you want to see more of the original passage at once.

How do I start reading for free?

Open Sentence, choose one of the three starter books, and tap Read free. The first sentence opens directly, without an account or payment step.

Which books can I start with?

The free starters are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in English, and Die Verwandlung in German. The first screen labels each book’s language.

Do I need an account, wallet, or READ tokens?

No account, wallet, or READ tokens are required to read the free starter books. Sign in with Google or email to save your progress. Card checkout for personal imports creates a payment wallet for you; you can start without READ tokens or an existing wallet.

Where do I find more books?

Open Bookshop to browse the moving featured shelf, search by title or author, and filter collections. Hover over a cover to reveal its color. Open a book’s details to see its available reading or unlock options.

How do I add Sentence to my iPhone home screen?

Open readsentence.com/app/ in Safari. Open the Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. Leave Open as Web App enabled if that option appears, then tap Add. If the action is missing, check Edit Actions in the Share menu.

How do I install Sentence on Android?

Open readsentence.com/app/ in Chrome. Open the browser menu and choose Add to home screen, then Install if offered. Confirm the browser’s instructions. You can also use Sentence’s Add to home screen button when it appears.

Is adding Sentence to my home screen free?

Yes. Adding the shortcut or installing the web app does not buy a book, start a subscription, or require a wallet. Your phone’s normal data charges may still apply.

What is a PWA?

A progressive web app is a website that can be installed and opened from an app icon. Sentence’s installed web app opens in its own window on supported devices. You can still use Sentence in your browser.

Why does Sentence not show an install button immediately?

Reading comes first. On mobile, Sentence offers a small home-screen card in the reading room after you have progressed through at least ten sentences in a book. It does not interrupt the reader. You can find instructions here or in Settings at any time.

Can I dismiss the home-screen suggestion?

Yes. Choose Not now to hide it for 30 days in that browser. Installation instructions remain available in Settings and this FAQ.

Why can’t I find Add to Home Screen or Install?

The wording and availability depend on your browser and device. Open Sentence in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android rather than inside a social app. Check whether it is already installed. Your browser may also offer a shortcut instead of an installed app.

What will the Sentence icon look like?

Look for a warm ivory “s.” on a dark background, labelled Sentence. The same simple mark is used for the iPhone home-screen icon and Android app icons. Your phone may apply its own icon shape or tint.

Can I use Sentence on a computer?

Yes. Open the website in a modern browser. Some desktop browsers also offer an install option in their address bar or menu. Keyboard arrows can move between sentences.

Can I remove the home-screen app?

Yes. Use your device’s usual remove or uninstall action. The website remains available. Do not rely on uninstalling to preserve local data: keep backups of your imported files and use supported account sync where available.

Reading comfortably

How do I move between sentences?

Swipe up for the next sentence or down to go back. The text follows your gesture. A short swipe settles back without advancing. You can also use the Previous and Next buttons or the keyboard arrow keys.

Can I read a whole page instead?

Yes. Open the reading menu from the progress control and choose Page view. Switch back to Sentence view when you prefer to focus on one sentence.

How do I go back to what I was reading?

Open Continue reading to return to the last book and resume from your saved position. Guest progress depends on this browser’s local storage; clearing site data can remove it.

Can I change the appearance or reduce motion?

Open Aa or Settings. Choose Night or Paper, adjust the available reading preferences, or enable Reduce motion. You can turn swipe gestures off and use the navigation buttons instead.

How do I translate a sentence?

Tap the translation icon in the reader. Hold the icon to choose language settings. Translation needs an internet connection and is subject to the allowance shown in the app.

Can I read offline?

Previously cached books and app files may remain available offline. Open the book while connected and test it in airplane mode before travelling. Installation alone does not download every book. New downloads, translations, account sync, and unlocks need a connection.

Can I import my own books?

Library includes an Import a book option. Supported file types include TXT, Markdown, JSON, PDF, and EPUB. Personal imports cost 100 earned READ or a one-time $10 payment through /import-unlock. Card funding and network fees are additional. Keep your original files as backups; scanned or protected files may not import as readable text.

Payments

Can I pay by card?

Yes, for the one-time $10 personal-import unlock. Privy creates a payment wallet during checkout. Add USDC with your card, then confirm the 10 USDC purchase plus network fees. Card payments for catalogue books are not currently available.

Are there extra fees or checks?

The funding provider shows its fees, minimum amount and any identity checks before you pay. Availability depends on your location and the provider. Your payment wallet needs enough USDC for the purchase and network fees. Extra USDC remains in that wallet.

I added funds by card. Why are imports still locked?

Adding funds and buying the unlock are separate steps. Return to checkout, check your balance and confirm the purchase. After sending a payment, use the saved receipt to check its progress. If you need help, contact support with your transaction reference; avoid sending another payment while the first is being checked.

Reading rewards, accounts, and help

How do I earn READ rewards?

Sign in and read eligible new sentences. Each earns 0.000001% of the unallocated treasury; first completion of a fully rewarded book earns 0.0001%. Reading-time checks and a daily cap apply.

Where can I spend reading rewards?

Spend READ rewards on eligible Sentence-owned books and personal imports. Author-created books require USDG onchain and never accept reading rewards.

Can I withdraw my READ rewards?

No. Earned READ is reserved in the Sentence treasury and can only be spent within eligible parts of Sentence. Wallet READ is separate.

Will my progress follow me to another device?

Guest progress stays in the browser where you read. Sign in using an available account method to use supported sync features. Installing the home-screen app is not itself a backup or a guarantee that browser storage transfers to another app window.

Why is my progress missing?

Check that you are using the same browser, device, and account as before. Private browsing, cleared site data, or a different home-screen app storage area can explain missing local progress. Keep original imported files and use supported sync and export features.

How do I get help?

Email support@readsentence.com with the book title, device, browser, and what happened. Never send passwords, wallet recovery phrases, or private keys.
